What to see in Selfoss
Selfoss ([ˈsːlˌfɔss] (? The Circunvalación (Hringvegur) road crosses it in its route between Hveragerði and Hella. The contemporary nucleus was formed at the end of the 19th century, when the first suspension bridges on the Ölfusá were built and became an agricultural services center.
Selfoss was colonized by Thorir Ásason at some point after year 1000, however, Icelandic sagas mention that Ingólfur Arnarson was here during the winter of 873 in the Ingólfsfjall mountain, located west of the Ölfusá River.
In the summer of 1891, and due to the Tryggvi Gunnarsson pressure, a member of Alþingi, the first hanging bridge on the Ölfusá was built. It was a large -scale work for Icelandic infrastructure. The bridge made the city a logical service center for the surrounding agricultural region. The current bridge was built in 1945 after the original structure collapsed.
